Alex Vernon is Professor of English at Hendrix College. He is the author of over 50 essays/articles, and his 9 books include Hemingway’s Second War: Bearing Witness to the Spanish Civil War; Teaching Hemingway and War; and Soldiers Once and Still: Ernest Hemingway, James Salter, and Tim O’Brien. He is currently working on Reading Ernest Hemingway’s For Whom the Bell Tolls (Kent State) as well as the 1936-1939 letters volume (Cambridge). He directed the Society’s 2016 conference in Oak Park.
